Where There is a Home, There is Hope
Soon after her daughter Lorraine was born, Sandy Withers knew something was wrong. She struggled to get a diagnosis, finally learning that Lorraine had Freeman-Sheldon Syndrome, a rare disease that speeds up the growth of certain bones. And although Sandy lived in England, the specialist her daughter needed practiced at the University of Virginia Children’s Hospital, in Charlottesville, Virginia. She and Lorraine have now traveled to Charlottesville 13 times for surgeries and treatments, and thanks to this care, Lorraine is a perfectly normal teenager. “We would not have been able to come here without the Ronald McDonald House,” says Sandy.
