Cassie and Mark Guillory were expecting their first child, watching every ultrasound with joyful anticipation. Then they faced every parent’s worst nightmare. After a healthy pregnancy, their newborn was whisked away in the hospital, and they soon found themselves rushing to the University of Virginia Medical Center. Their daughter, Emma Rose, needed open heart surgery.“We were devastated and exhausted. When we arrived at the Ronald McDonald House, our room was waiting and there was dinner in the kitchen. It was such a relief to have someone do all the thinking for us, so we could focus on our baby.” Cassie and Mark spent weeks at the Ronald McDonald House, shuttling back and forth to the hospital. But the surgery was successful, and Emma is now a healthy, happy toddler.
