We know we’ve been posting a lot lately on the ADPi’s – it’s that time of year when the college students are trying to squeeze in as many events as they can before exams. But the Pi’s are a special lot. We remember quite fondly the first weekend for a new Weekend Manager (WM) at the House. Friday evening had been a trying experience, and Sat. morning was even worse. Sr. Management came in to assist. Once things were on an even keel again we turned to the WM and said: “Now remember, the ADPi’s come in this afternoon.” The WM excitedly responded: ” 80 pies! What in the heck are we going to do with 80 pies?!!!” Well, we didn’t know about “80 pies”, but we knew that the ADPi’s would be a wonderful assist for his afternoon. This came to mind as we observed the 2013 Ace It to To Raise It Tennis Tournament on Sat. The ladies did a simply fabulous job pulling it all together. There were over 100 teams in motion, the weather was spectacular, and the food was abundant. Thank you, UVA ADPi’s for creating this very special fundraiser for the House. It helps to provide the critical funds we need to serve children and families. That’s worth writing about – frequently! ![5866537[1]](http://rmhcharlottesville.org/news/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/58665371-300x199.jpg)
The “Pi’s” Have It!
Artistry at Work!
We love creativity! We have several wonderful JMU ADPi’s with us today to do some artwork for our upcoming Pop Art Contest at the end of the month. They have a “vision” and set right to work. We hope you will consider adding your own creation to the event. It can utilize any type of media – cloth, canvas, wood, cardboard, wire, whatever! It just needs a majority of its composition to be pop tabs. You can find the rules and an entry form on our website (www.rmhcharlottesville.org) under News and Events. Check it out. The Award Show and Ceremony on April 27th, which is open to all, will be great fun!
A Shopping Spree for the House
Well, those ADPi’s from JMU have done it again! Tonight there is a shopping event at DUO in Harrisonburg. A portion of the proceeds from this evening’s sales will come to the House. So, all of you good folks in the Harrisonburg area need to head to 108 S. Main this evening. Many thanks to the owners of Duo for their support – and also to those wonderful Pi’s!
What a Great Group!
Here is a BIG thank you to the fabulous band of ADPi sorority sisters from JMU who traveled our way today to fix a meal for our families. It was such a thoughtful thing for them to do while in the middle of a very busy semester. We always tell folks how important food is at the House, and how they are feeding souls as well as tummies. Watching these college students this afternoon…it nourishes the heart as well!
Sunday Volunteers
We wanted to tell you about our volunteers on Sunday. The awesome ADPi’s arrived mid- morning and turned the main floor into a Halloween fun House. They decorated with lots of orange and black streamers, Halloween images, and very special home-made cards for our families. Then, members of the Indian Student Association at U.Va. (pictured) arrived to help us with landscaping. This wonderful group of young people worked outside for several hours – despite the chilly rain – and did a fabulous job spreading mulch. Finally, volunteers from the Rugby Ave. Church of Christ arrived to cook dinner for our families. They prepared a wonderful meal, and spread a lot of good cheer at the same time. Nothing makes you feel better about the human race than to observe the volunteers who grace our doorstep. They take all of us to higher ground. Many thanks to each of these groups for their open hearts and hard-working hands.
Praise for the ADPis
We want to take this opportunity to once again praise the ADPis at UVa for all of their love and support this year. As you know, they put on the First Ever, Best Ever Ace it To Raise It Tennis Tournament in early April to benefit the House. They often bring treats and cards to our families. They have also volunteered at the House just about every weekend since the beginning of the school year. They arrive, filled with energy, and dive into whatever tasks we assign. This past Saturday marked their last weekend for the year – finals are coming up and it’s time for them to return full focus to their books. These young ladies are superstars to us. Best of luck on your exams, Ladies. Thank you for all you have done for us this year, and we look forward to seeing you again in the fall. Take care.
Desserts Galore!
The Sisters of ADPi sorority are something else. Not only did they put on the first ever, best ever, “Ace It To Raise It” Tennis Tournament on Saturday, but last night they showed up with a Dessert Bar for our families to enjoy – cookies, cupcakes, decorated Rice Crispie treats, and chocolate peanut butter cereal mix. Can you imagine how wonderful it was to come back from the hospital late last night and enjoy a hot cup of tea or coffee and one of these desserts? These young women are such faithful supporters of the House, using their hands, hearts, and minds. Thank you so much, Ladies, for all that you do for us!
Tournament Success!
Friends, if you were unable to join us Sat. for the 1st Annual ADPi “Ace It To Raise It” Tennis Tournament then you missed out on a whole lot of fun. We are finalizing a short video to share with you. ADPi did an outstanding job pulling this all together – 80 teams signed up, the courts were well managed with folks moving on and off like clockwork, music, delicious food, face painting, the moon bounce, a capella groups, a pie eating contest, event t-shirts, and a ‘Pie the President’ opportunity (where one could pay to lob a whipped cream pie at the sorority President). It was fantastic. It is hard to express our appreciation for all of their efforts on our behalf. And did I mention that they still came to the House for their weekend volunteering on both Saturday and Sunday? We’ll post pix from the event as soon as possible. Meanwhile, hug a “Pi” if you see one!
