A Sweet Story of Thoughtfulness

We’ve received many, many kindnesses over the past few days – but we’ve been so busy with the Pop Art Contest we have not been very good reporters of everything else going on. We wanted to share this very special visit from last Friday. A beautiful, young bride-to-be arrived at the door with 250 knit caps, each one lovingly packed into its own zip lock bag and labeled with its size. The bride, her groom, and many members of her family have spent weeks making these for us. These are the guest gifts for their wedding. When each guest is seated at the reception he/she will receive a card stating that a hand knitted cap has been made in their honor and donated to the House. It is such a lovely idea (one of our House bears is modeling one in the picture). They will bring such smiles to the faces of our families when the cooler weather returns. One has to believe that this special couple is going to enjoy many happy and blessed years of marriage.

We are Swimming with Thanks

We are so pleased for our families. The Smith Aquatic & Fitness center has provided us with pool passes for our folks. This will be such a great way for the adults to get a bit of exercise for both mind and spirit, and the little ones will love it. Many, many thanks to the folks at Smith who operate and maintain this fabulous facility in our city.

Inspiration for a Great Cause

Here is a little inspiration for those of you who are thinking about entering the Pop Art Contest. There is still plenty of time to do so, and we have plenty of tabs for you to pick up to get started. Just stop by the House between 10 am and 5 pm any day through the 5th and we will gladly provide you with an entry form and a bag of tabs (there are plenty more if think you might need them). Come on businesses, and teams of all sorts. Challenge yourself, artists, and let your imaginations wander, amateurs. And where are the teenagers? This is a great activity for you, too. We are looking forward to seeing all of the creations on the 12th at PVCC!

Spreading Warmth Throughout the Community

The dedicated members of Project Linus stopped by the other day to drop off a new supply of quilts for our little ones. This great group of folks uses their gifts and talents to piece together these mantles of love for many, many of the charities in our area. We are so appreciative of their donations to the House. We wish they could see the faces of the parents when we hand them one of these creations; it is a smile of appreciation that clearly starts at the heart and then travels to the face!

Busy Weekend

We are still recovering from a busy weekend at the House. Sat. afternoon volunteers (and their “assistants”) from Wells Fargo arrived to provide us with a wonderful turkey dinner – with all of the sides. They also brought a huge stuffed horse, and some smaller versions of the same, to delight our little ones. They did a great job. Sun. was busy with the kick off of the Pop Art Contest. Both NBC29 and Newslplex picked up the story. We are excited that there is so much interest in participating in the contest. Finally, our good friend Bonnie F. came by Sun. evening to prepare a delicious Italian Baked Chicken and Pasta meal. It was a delightful – and yummy – way to close down the weekend.

Giggling in the Halls

We just had a nice visit from Girl Scout Troop 1158. They came to tour the House and to deliver a complete meal they had made for us – including lasagna, salad, and cake. They also made adorable cards for our families. The cards show such creativity and caring. Thank you, Ladies, for the wonderful meal, for the laughter you brought into the House, and for your endearing words of support for our families.

Patience is a Virtue

We are getting excited about the First Annual Pop Art Contest. The interview on WINA yesterday was great fun. We plan to have ads running on TV soon. The bags of tabs are prepped and ready for pick-up starting Sunday. The “waiting” for it all to start is difficult. We are so appreciative of the corporate support we have received, and we hope other businesses will join in with group entries to the contest. We can’t wait to see where peoples’ imaginations take them!

JAG School to the Rescue

Once again, representatives from the JAG School have honored us with their support. The NCOES group there arrived Saturday with a huge Wish List donation. The provided us with a great assortment of the items we churn through on a daily basis. We really appreciate this, folks! Every item will be put to good use.
