On Air with Rick and Jane

Many thanks to WINA Radio Morning News team, Rick and Jane, for having us on their program this morning to talk about the Ronald McDonald Charities of Charlottesville and our upcoming Pop Art Contest. We are very excited to see what our local community (professional and amateur artists) can create using recycled pop tabs. It was great to sit down in the WINA studios to discuss this fundraising event with Rick and Jane. We greatly appreciate their support for our cause and enthusiasm about this creative fundraiser. You can go to WINA 1070 to listen to our segment and to keep up with the latest local and national news.

A Great Lesson

Those wonderful 8th graders from STAB returned to do more volunteer work today.  They arrived with a huge surprise for us – lots of wish list items!  Apparently, the students having been doing chores to earn money which they then pooled for a shopping trip to purchase the wish list items.  What a great lesson!  Thank you for your leadership with these fine young people, Ms. L.  You have led them through a very meaningful exercise. The students spent the bulk of their time with us today re-packing pop tabs into bags for our upcoming Pop Art Contest. They did a great job.  We truly appreciate all that the members of the St. Anne’s-Belfield community do for us.

We Found Another One!

This is another photo we found taken here at the House.  Again, it says it all.

Guess the Title?

We received a special delivery of Lovies today and want to share a picture of their arrival with you.  We thought – instead of “Splendor in the Grass” – we could title this “Lovies amongst the Azaleas”.  Thank you, Christie, for providing us with more of these adorable critters.  We wish you, and everyone else who passes through our Page, a wonderful, wonderful weekend.

It Says It All

We were going through some of our pictures today and came upon one that we thought represented the House quite well.  This one was taken several days after Valentine’s Day, when we had forgotten to take down all of the decorations.  We entered the kitchen one afternoon to see the shadow of a heart floating on one of the tables.  It made us smile, as we thought that said it all – there are probably similar hearts floating through all of the rooms of the House!  We send this one to YOU.

Charles is IN the House!

We also had an unexpected visit from one of our former Moms, Melissa C., and her incredibly adorable son, Charles.  If he isn’t perfection we don’t know what is!  We are pleased to know  Charles is growing bigger and stronger every day.  It was so sweet of Mom to drop by; we love to see our “alumni” doing so well.

A “Sweet” Visit

We received a “sweet” visit today from our good friend Dot. H. and her granddaughters.  The ladies did a wonderful   job of baking and decorating cupcakes for our families.  Some were chocolate and some vanilla…all looked DELICIOUS!  What a great way to spend a spring morning.  Thank you, Ladies!

Mt. Horeb Presbyterian Church – Grottoes

We were so pleased to have a group from Mt. Horeb Presbyterian Church in Grottoes come to tour the House on Sunday.  The Youth Group hosted their Annual Chili Cook-Off in March and designated all contributions for the House.  The representatives who visited not only came to tour but also to bring us a very generous check as a result of the Cook-Off.  We are so appreciative.  Their check more than pays our costs to care for a family for an entire week. Isn’t this fantastic?!  Thank you, Friends, for being such faithful partners in support of the House and for this extra special gift to help us take care of our families.

Grad Students and Young Professionals

Adding to all of the activity in the kitchen on Saturday, we had a group of grad students and young professionals refurbishing one of our bedrooms.  They worked both Sat. and Sun. to paint and redecorate the room.  They paid such wonderful attention to all of the little details and have now created a lovely room for our guests to enjoy.  Thank you, Casey and Friends, for your good cheer and hard work.

Miss Emma Turns Two!

Later on Saturday the Mazingo Family arrived to celebrate Miss Emma’s 2nd Birthday.  How can this child get any cuter? They overwhelmed – and honored – us with the magnitude of their gifts for the House and our families.  They also brought a great “grab and go” Deli meal for our families.  It was a perfect meal for a busy Saturday.  Mom and Dad remember those days all too well.  But Miss Emma is proof that it is all worth it.  We are so appreciative of their return to the House each year to include us in the celebration.  Happy Birthday, Miss Emma, and we wish you many, many more happy ones to come!
